Photography

   I'm a gallery owner and artist in Atlanta, GA, and I have strong passions for art and golf.  I travel to a few select golf tournaments each year to photograph.  My goal is to celebrate the game of golf in a style that floats between documentation, photo-journalism and high art.  Golf is infinitely interesting, and I hope that my photographs allow you to celebrate and enjoy the game in a truly unique fashion.

   Lookout Mountain Gallery presents Follow The Sun, an exhibition of golf photographs by Robert Matre. His photographs, primarily black & white and sepia-toned prints, have an artistic quality that separate him from popular sports photographers.

   Follow The Sun references the 1951 film classic starring Glenn Ford as Ben Hogan.  In theory, professional golf tours “follow the sun” throughout the year in order to compete in the best possible weather conditions, and Robert Matre is often there with his camera.  The title is also relevant to Matre’s process, as the position of the sun is of paramount importance to golf photography.
